How to choose a men's shower gel (most men never have)

Most men have never actually chosen their shower gel. It was a gift, it was on offer, or it was already in the shower. If you want to choose one on purpose, there are five things to check, and none of them takes long.
Quick answer
- Read the back, not the front.
- Check what the cleaning system is and whether SLS is in it.
- Look for a stated pH.
- Pick a scent you would actually choose.
- Check the pump. A bad pump ruins a good gel.
1. Read the back, not the front
The front is advertising. The back is the ingredient list. Ingredients are listed by amount, so the first few make up most of the bottle.
2. Look at the cleaning system
Look for what is doing the cleaning and whether it includes SLS, a common foaming agent. Not everyone minds it. Some people prefer to avoid it. See what SLS free means.
3. Is the pH stated?
Some brands print it, some do not. If it matters to you, look for it, or ask. Ours is 5.5.
4. Scent
You will smell it every day, so it has to be one you like. If you are unsure, start with a small size.
5. The pump
A pump that clogs or leaks is annoying every single morning. Ours was tested across 15 bottles before it was used.
6. Do not buy for the label alone
A wolf on the bottle is not a reason. Read what is inside and decide.
